Hardwired...to Self-Destruct is the tenth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released on November 18, 2016. The album is the first since 2008's Death Magnetic, marking the longest period in the band’s history without an official studio album release, previously held by the time between ReLoad and St. Anger, being six years. The record is also the first to be released under Metallica's independent record label Blackened Recordings.
Production[]
In late 2011, Robert Trujillo had announced that the band was currently writing new material for the upcoming album, the band had been in contact with Rick Rubin, who had previously produced Death Magnetic from 2008, and were looking forward to working with him again as well as stating 2012 would be dedicated to recording the record.
In the Spring of 2014, Metallica embarked upon the Metallica by Request Tour in which fans voted for all songs played at each show, except one. The last song was chosen by Metallica themselves, the song in question was a new song, entitled Lords of Summer, written specifically for the shows, the song would later become a bonus track included with the Deluxe Edition of the album.
Promotion[]
On August 18, 2016, Metallica released the video of the first single from the album, Hardwired, as well as announced the name and release date of the album. It would be put up for pre-order the following day, with each purchase including a free digital download of the Hardwired single.
In October 2016 Metallica will embark on the first leg of the upcoming tour to support the album, playing five shows in Latin America. Further tour dates to be announced.

Trivia[]
- This is the first and only Metallica album to date in which every song on the record will receive a music video. The next closest amount per a single record is 1991's Black Album with five music videos.
- This is the second album to where Kirk Hammett doesn't get a song writing credit, due to losing his phone with all his riff ideas. The other album is 1983's Kill 'Em All.
- This is the second album that has less than four people getting at least one song writing credit, the first being Load from 1996.
